You can claim the dole for up to 3 months in another country IF you are seeking work.

I said you can't earlier, but actually according to this thread the above post is true. You can transfer your dole payments to another EU country for 13 weeks.

Was listening to a financial expert on Newstalk last week and this topic came up. He said it wasn't possible. Some expert.

Go to your hatch where you sign on and ask for the Uk version of the form E303, do this a few weeks before you depart to ensure they stop your payments here and within a week of being in the UK there, you must present yourself at the local social welfare office. Your payments will continue for 13 weeks only, you need to come back to Ireland after that.

Good luck with the job hunt.

Depending on what your age is, what you will get is piss. If you're over 25 you'll get a bit more, but still not enough to live on. it's something like £50 a week, so not such a good idea.

You will get paid the same amount as you receive here. Jobseekers Benefit (not J Allowance) is transferable to another EU country for max of 13 weeks, and you have to have received a minimum of 4 weeks payments here before you can apply for it.

You have to do it about one week before you move, otherwise your dole won't be waiting for you at the post office! When you get to the new country you must bring the form E303 with you and register with the local social welfare there within one week of arrival. It all sounds very straightforward. You continue to receive the same amount of money you were getting in Ireland.

Don't forget you can only do this if you're on JSB. It doesn't apply to JSA.

It seems it may be advisable to approach the SW office as much in advance as possible in order to set up the transfer of your Jobseekers Benefit. The SW and Citizen Information sites do not state how much in advance but some people have experienced difficulty because of having left it too late. This site
    http://www.inou.ie/welfarerights/unemployedjobseeker/jobseekersbenef.html
advises making the application at least a month in advance.

I know it says that on the site and I followed their instructions, but I went to my welfare office yesterday (i'm not moving to the UK until the beginning of June), queued for an hour only to be told no, you need to come back one week before you move with your new address and the address of the nearest welfare office. If they start the process any sooner then you're in danger of losing out on some of your payments in the post office.
