    Hi :)

Trying to look into what course to pick once the Leaving is over and have just realized that I haven't a clue about how the college day goes lol
Just wondering (obviously depends on the course) but on average, what the hours for a typical college day are like?

I really want to have a job too while I'm at college, but, I've just never really thought about how much of the week is actually spent in lectures etc

Just wondering of anyone can shed some light on it for me please?

    x

Business courses that I have experienced (Undergrad and Postgrad) typically have 14 hours per week lecture time. Actual work time, including meetings, assignment work and study varies depending on what the assignment workload is like, what year you are in etc.

Roughly what would have been your college hours per day - Like, from what time in the morning until what time you'd usually be finished?

That varies hugely from course to course and day to day. I, for example, only had an average of six hours a week this year, but was 10-5 some days, 1-5 another, and only one day free. (Remember, it's not free time if there's not enough time to make use of it!) It's impossible to predict.

This time of year its 8am - 10pm for my course (Masters level) for the month of April pretty much, that's restricted by the library closing hours. Time at home is spent doing more work too.

There are so many factors involved that you really need to get a job that's flexible and when you get your timetable work around that. You can say whatever time your lectures are on at your in college, and you may have meeting scheduled for an hour or two before and or after at undergraduate level. Many people balance work with a college life, regardless of what lecturers recommend. There are some who work full time at masters level but don't see much time asleep!

Every course is different perhaps you could look up the timetable on your
college website. You need to allow a certain amount of time for studying.

Literally every course is different and depending on university you go to, evry semester and year it will be different.

My days have ranged from 9-6, and others iv had a single hour long random class in the middle of the day. I remember one year I had a single class at 10 every friday with the rest of day off.

    There is no standard.
Different courses are known for having more intense hours like science or engineering or medicine etc... whilst arts or law traditionally have less class hours but have alot of outside work to do i.e. reading etc...

Get yourself a job during the summer and when you get you college timetable give it to your employer or whatever and as them to try give you hours around that.

Alternatively some campus' have jobs on campus... shop etc... dead handy if not very well paid.

    What course you going for?

I do science and had 24-27 hours a week, depending on the semester. However, I know arts students that have 6-9 hours a week. It really does depend on what subject you're doing. I doubt it would be too hard to find a copy of last years timetables for whatever courses you're interested in. Try the course handbook if there is one. You might find them online.
