Braces and gum disease

I have braces on my top and bottom teeth. I was last at my orthodontist on April 2nd. He says I doing a good job cleaning my teeth. I floss where I can and where's it's dificult I use Tepe interdental brushes, the second smallest size. I also use mouth wash quite regularly. About a week ago I noticed some swelling at the gum in between my two front centre teeth. It was quite sore and I switched to using corsodyl mouth wash and cleaned the area as best I could. The swelling went down but now I have swelling in the gum around the bottom 6 centre teeth as well as a small pus build up. I was hoping it would go away but I think I'll have to call my dentist tomorrow. Has anyone any advice on this? I've read about some people using a waterpik, are these any good?

    hiya.
is it painful?? do you smoke? and are you using the mouthwash to clean the area more than the tepe brushes?
how are you flossing? is the floss only going as far as the archwire, or are you using superfloss and threading it through?

I think defiantly go see your dentist/ orthodontist about this. Stop smoking if you are a smoker.

You should have it seen to asap. It may be that even though you are cleaning there are parts that you are missing and this has caused an infection.

I called my dentist but he can't fit me in until June 1st. My next ortho appointment is in two weeks so maybe he can help. I asked about that waterpik thing but they hadn't even heard of them. I'm not a smoker. My dentist also mentioned superfloss so I'll get some of that. Thanks for the replies. I asked about that waterpik thing but they hadn't even heard of them.

This is unusual your dentist can't fit you in until june!!Ring back and mention the problem if he can't fit you in asap go to another practice.
I got braces 2 months ago.I think I am on top of the cleaning(superfloss etc)when all of a sudden (esp on lower teeth)I get bleeding from the gums and end up in a mad frenzy trying to get them back to normal.
    I feel your pain:)
