Erroneous Diet Technique?

Hi what would your opinion on a specific type of dieting be, namely that type of diet where less is more.

My sister seems to think that eating the bare minimum is enough, mixed with exercise, & regular snacking (of things like fruit) is fine.

I fail to see that logic for many reasons but I could be wrong.

If you're going to diet is it not better to eat filling and healthy square meals that don't leave you hungry all throughout the day? Not only does this strain & stress out your body, the feeling of hunger gnawing away at your insides, but your not getting enough energy to counteract the feelings of hunger if you're not getting enough energy from the little food you eat.

If you are going to snack all throughout the day does that not wreak havoc on your body? Your stomach has to constantly produce stomach acids to deal with it and your body has to be in a constant state of flux metabolizing this incoming food with no rest save for at night. This constant strain to just break down foods is so costly that it makes one hungy again soon, and it's a vicious cycle producing all this stomach acid with no cessation.

I also read somewhere that this method of eating allows build up of fat, or something Idk but I'd really like somebody to let me know (with a citation if possible!).

I would think that 3 square meals a day & plenty of water mixed with exercise is the surest way to losing weight. If you have any knowledge I (and my sister even more) would really appreciate it, I in particular would appreciate any literature or links that go into the specifics.

Thanks for taking the time to read :D

seriously, some people take weight loss a bit too far, its not rocket science

step one: find out your daily calorific needs, http://www.exrx.net/Calculators/CalRequire.html

Step two: a pound of fat has 3500 calories (so if you eat a pound of say butter it has 3200 calories if its pure fat), if you decrease your daily intake of calories by 500 calories(subtract 500 from your daily needs), you will lose 1 pound of body weight every week (500 x 7 = 3500)

if you want to loose weight faster, chop another 500 off, that will lose you another pound a week,
and dont go over board with it, 2lbs is the maximum you should be losing per week unless you are morbidly obese

you can increase your daily requirement by adding cardio/weight training, weight training increases metabolism (it increases lean body mass, hence requiring more food to retain the mass you have)
, so you can eat pretty much the same ammount of food as you are eating now, but since your calorie requirement is higher you will loose wieght.
