I have heard for subjects like maths, economics etc. that the subject in college is much different than that you learn in the leaving cert.

Is this the case for business, too? Is it more in depth or do you study completely different things?

Of course it is! what would the point of a University course in something if it were no more difficult than the leaving cert!

Did you actually read his question or were you just in a pissy mood and decided to get snotty for no good reason?

Anyways Stainluss, to give you an idea of University Business, here's the subjects currently taught on DCU's BS course: http://www.dcu.ie/registry/module_contents.php?function=4&programme=BS

You'll see it's a mix of taking what you've already studied and going more in depth into it and new subjects.

But is it in the same areas that you do for the LC, or new areas?

If you look at the first year Business Studies modules, Business Organisation for the LC just about scratches the surface in Marketing and Management but Law, Info Systems, Psychology in Organisations, Business Maths, Accounting and Economics (unless you're also studying these for the LC). In turn, these modules will really only give you a good basic understanding of what are vast subjects and areas of research.

So, to answer your question, univesity level business studies is completely different to LC business.

There may be some overlap, where this is it should be in more detail but there should be a lot of new content also. There will be a great element of self directed research and learning as opposed to one core text in the Leaving cert.

Some find colleges teach stuff a lot faster than secondary school and you learn completely differently.
you might cover everything you did for the leaving in just a few weeks.
I don't do business so I can't say for sure
