Looking for a copy of the Companies Acts

    Hi,

I'm trying to get a copy of the Companies Acts 1963 to 2009. It's for an accountancy exam I'm doing at the end of May, we are allowed to bring in a copy of it but it's not required. I understand that it would be quite expensive to buy a copy, so I'm trying to avoid having to do so when it's just for one exam. I was wondering does anyone know if there's anywhere I could borrow/rent a copy for a couple of weeks? If so, I'd really appreciate if you could either reply to this thread or else PM me.

    Thanks in advance!

I got my boss to buy a set for the office when I was doing that exam - some of the larger firms seemed to have several copies but I did see students with massive folders of photocopies. Have not a clue where you could borrow a set from though.

Yes, it would cost you quite alot of money if you were to buy the combined Companies Act 1963-2009 in the Government Publications Office. There is a student edition of the Acts which is published by Tottel and is available in the likes of Easons and Hodges Figgis. It retails at about €90. It is available on Amazon for £76 with free delivery (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Companies-1963-2009-Student-Lyndon-MacCann/dp/1847664822/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1272457995&sr=8-1).

I think people have sought to sell the student edition of the Companies Acts 1963-2006 on here on a number of occasions. Perhaps someone could help you in that regard and then you could supplement it by buying the 2009 Act at the Government Publications Office. You can buy the 1963-2006 edition on Amazon for £57 new plus delivery from an independent vendor (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/1847663907/ref=sr_1_1_olp?ie=UTF8&s=gateway&qid=1272458015&sr=8-1&condition=new).

Hope that helps. Perhaps someone here will come up with the goods. I have the student edition of the 1963-2006 Acts but I am using it intensively at the minute I am afraid.

See if this person will let you rent them from him: http://www.adverts.ie/showproduct.php?product=178551&cat=all

Or see if you can get the PDF from www.irishstatutebook.ie and print it yourself - lots of ink & paper but maybe still cheaper than buying it.

Not wanting to doubt you but i was told a few years ago when i rang that photocpies could not be brought into the hall. Maybe things have changed but open to abuse the photocopied version.

my understanding was that photocopies were not ok unless they were in PDF. But not positive!

Yeah i was just wondering how they knew you printed them from pdf! anyway....;)

If it's anything i had the company acts in two seperate light brown covered folders. Tabbed to the nth degree. QUite helpful inside in an exam but i'd rather go in and not use them having paid 80 quid that go in need them and not have them and then having to spend another 3 months studying the damn thing.

ugh... I spent loads of money on the Copyright, Trademark & Patent Acts and tabbed them to hell only to arrive at the exam and be told we couldn't take our own in and that they would supply us with copies. This is when we were specifically told that anything we wanted we needed to buy and bring in ourselves. Never bothered trying to return them as I figured I could use them at the bar anyway.

Just so you know, printing is generally cheaper than buying at the Government Publications Office. For example, Companies Act 1990, costs €41 to buy, €10 or less to print (at €0.05 per page). So if you're not totally loaded you might want to print them all out yourself, it's a bit of hassle and still costs a bit but a lot less than buying.

If it's a professional exam like the FE-1's, you're not gonna have the option of printing anything out - you'll have to buy/borrow an approved text book with the consolidated acts

    Hi all,

I know i can re-sell at Chapters but is there any other good second hand book store especially for these kind of expensive textbooks..

I'm looking for a quick sell, Combined Companies Acts 1963-2009, its brand new, bought it two days before the exam which was last week. Its so frustrating that they won't provide copies of the acts in the exams but I wasn't going to take the chance of going in empty handed.
