I'm currently building the entrance wall to my house using normal 9" blocks. The wall has a slight curve with 4 piers. When this is complete I intend on getting a stone finish on the face of the wall.

What I want to know is does the stone need to be tied to the blocks and if so what will I use?

You really need to select your stone first. The stone supplier should advise on appropriate fixing methods.

Some stone/stone cladding can be stuck on, some need galvanised steel ties built into wall as the wall is being built or some use galvanised steel cleats fixed to wall.

My engineer was very definite that galvanised mesh should not be used to attach stone to the house, it was to be stainless steel or wall-ties. He said that galvanised materials fail over time. It probably doesn't matter as much for a low wall, but might be worth keeping in mind.

if your going to tie the stonework to the block wall you dont need piers as the the stone will support the block wall when they are tied together.
you can use wall ties or galvanised mesh it doesnt matter for a wall thats only going to be about 4 feet high. just space them about every yard and let them out about 6 inches.

If its a DIY effort, a more important question might be, do you know how to tie your block wall to your block pier?

The rain must have stopped by now? Could you post a pic? Is it a DIY job?
    Thanks
