Cut off jobseekers allowance

    Hi all.

I am currently on job seekers allowance and have been for 18 months or so and currently living at home, recently had a social welfare inspector calling to the house. Apparently she called up 6 times and i haven't been in for whatever reason or we never heard her as the door bell doesn't work.

Got called for a meeting last week, all was really asked for was my bank statement for the last 3 months and the aul boys books. Received a letter yesterday stating my total weekly means is €337 and that as my means are greater than or equal to the weekly rate of payment €196 that I am not entitled to any payment. Not sure how they calculate it?

So can they just cut me off like that, what am i meant to live off and pay my bills with now? Does it also mean i cant apply for the BTES.

Anyone have any input or info on this?
    Thanks

Hello Electro-Shocks. Sorry to hear you lost your benefits.

Because you are below 24, you will be means-assessed on your parents income.

Their income is assessed to the degree that it helps you, and that degree is deducted from the money which the welfare would otherwise pay you.

So if what your parents gives you is more than what the State would, then the State don't give you anything. This is not limited to cash, it also has to do with meals, your room, living quarters, an allowance, anything of that nature.

    Sorry.:(

A load of gick this is, you're not offered a chance to justify your living
arrangements whatsoever. I know of some people who live with their
parents and have to pay rent and sort out their own food, some of these
    people are on the dole.

sorry, good luck with everything, hope it works out.
