Betfair data

There's an analysis I'd dearly love to run (for my own amusement initially, but eventually for profit, one hopes!)

I have, however, no points in my betfair account and require 100 to download their data.

Has anyone any tips for the quickest/cheapest way to do this? I know you get 1 point for every 10c commission paid on wins or losses; I was therefore thinking of finding a two horse race (baseball game, maybe), relatively evenly matched, and placing €100 Euros on both teams.

The way I see it, I've won close to €100 regardless of who wins, which equates to near enough 50 points (100*.05*/0.10), and since you get implied odds on lost bets, I'd therefore get the same amount of points on the stake that lost.

Upping my stakes to guarantee €100 minimal return on the winner (depending on the odds, this may require about 110 on each line) should see me get the 100 points.

This seems a little TOO easy though, am I missing something?

You'll get sweet f all points the way you are going to fo it. just sit in Powers for an hour, a few small arbs and you're away with it.

Regarding the data, I presume you know your way around access? If not don't even bother getting it. Secondly, the data is full of holes. I don't know have they fixed the error where bets placed pre event, kept in play and matched in play were still flagged in the data as pre event matched. This basically invalidates any analysis whatsoever on horse racing markets (unless you use the off time or the first bet matched in play to delete the other ones - but this kills any in play analysis).

Basically it's a disaster zone, it took me 6 months and €12k worth of freelancers before I pulled the plug.

Thanks for that man, sorry about the delay getting back to you.

What do you mean by sit in Powers for an hour and get arbs? I know what an arb is, but how does this get me points and what is Powers? Cheers?
