It depends on the college involved. Some will still have empty places in September.

If you mean for September '10, second round interviews are coming up very soon, there were so many applicants for first round in my college that places are very tight. I would not chance leaving it till September unless you absolutely have to.

As Spurious says, it depends on the college. We're getting applications in for the past 3 months, but a lot more than usual for this time of year. There are a lot of people looking to return to education, so competition in some places may be getting tight.

My advice? Ask the college and get your application in asap.

I've applied for a PLC in Cork [St. John's College], but I live in Sligo. Second-round interviews are on the 21st of May [if I recall correctly], and there is no way I could get there and back at that point in the school year. Is this going to diminish my chances a lot? Am I just an idiot for even trying to get a course so far away?

If your willing to make it there everyday on time and if your serious about the course then no its not stupid. it might cost you a bit but if your willing to do that then no.

    Most certainly am.
I really can't stand the secondary school environment [uniform, apelike behaviour, condescension etc.], but college or a PLC course seems to jettison all that stuff in favour of actual learning.
Grants are available for PLC, especially in my family's earning bracket, and I can do odd jobs over the summer to save up.
What I'm wondering is whether this interview situation is going to screw up my chances? The course I have applied for [Applied Science] is pretty much a ticket to the course I'd like to do in Cork IT [herbal Science], and I really don't want to have to repeat my Leaving because of a bungled interview.
Haven't given up completely on the LC, but it's not looking very good at all.
How would you explain 'I failed my Leaving' in an interview designed to test your merits for an academic course?

Depends what course you are applying for.
They will be more interested in why you want to do the course, how you feel you will be able to do the study involved etc.
Most PLC interviews are not about catching you out on what you know or don't know, it's more about seeing are you the sort of person who is willing to learn and work with them.

There may well not be any biology questions, though they may discuss biology in general to see what interest you have. Fetac courses tend to start from a basis of not assuming you have any special knowledge about the subject, but they would expect you to have an interest and some general knowledge.
