Why is it that in the US a story like Goldman can break and a WEEK later senior people in GS can be seen on youtube being grilled.

Why does it take a tribunal, a year and a boat load of money to get any thing done in the Irish system ??

I would love to see the old regulator or the head of Anglo answering questions under oath yesterday!

The US system is more corrupt that any other system in the world. This show they are putting on is just for the people to think something is being done, when in reality all they get is less than a slap on the wrist and they go back to putting money into the pockets of politicians.

I never said that. But I'd rather take a measured and calculated approach at doing investigations correctly than jump the gun and put on an act for show.

In reality the legal system in the USA is not much quicker than our own. Fair enough, people get to see these guys being dragged before a Congressional hearing who get to grill them. It is arguable that we should amend our Constitution to give greater power to Oireachtas committees in order that similar could happen here. However, what you see in that video is not a judicial hearing and it will not produce any binding result. I have constantly seen people compare the fact that there has not been a court case in relation to any of the directors of the Irish banks to the fact that Bernie Madoff is now in jail. That of course is a false comparison, because Madoff admitted what he had done and pleaded guilty on most of the charges. A better comparison is what happened in America in the wake of the Enron collapse. You can look up lots of Congressional hearings and see the likes of Ken Lay and Jeff Skilling being grilled. However, in respect of the legal system (this being a legal discussion board) it took nearly 5 years to get convictions.
