going to Germany with my boyfriend who is currently working in Brussels....just a short break for 4 nights.....want to go to Heidelberg.....so what I need to know is:
Visit either Dusseldorf or Cologne for one night....which one?
Then go down to Heidelberg and onto Stuttgart...go to Heidelberg for 2 nights and Stuttgart for 1 or the other way around?
We're in our late 20's....looking for some night sights to explore during the day but also good nightlife!

    Any other ideas welcome!

    Thanks!!

Most definitely Düsseldorf. Cologne is the gay capital of Germany. If that does not happen to interest you then there is very little reason to visit the city. The cathedral maybe is worth seeing but you can do that by stopping in Cologne for an hour. Otherwise, the city is not very inviting or interesting. Düsseldorf on the other hand has absolutely excellent nightlife.

Eh? Düsseldorf is prettier (Cologne is not ugly but most of it is postwar) but Cologne's nightlife is top notch, gay capital or not. Head along Friesenstraße for plenty of bars and clubs, with the crowds spilling onto the street of a warm summer's evening. I have only seen Düsseldorf during the daytime, so can't comment on its nightlife. Cologne is not to be written off though and the Cathedral and Roman museum (and chocolate museum ;) ) are all worth a visit, the cathedral is unreal when you're inside and they play the organ!

Düsseldorf is known as the longest bar counter in the world (die längste Theke der Welt) for a reason. There is lots of nightlife in the old town.

Heidelberg is a cool town, I lived there for a year.

Its quite small, and is fairly quiet during the week so Id recommend heading there for a weekend.
