    Hi Lads

Interested to hear from anyone who has been through this course in UL. What did you think of it? Was it relevant to you? how did it go down in the real world? How does it compare to other PM courses or MBA's even?

what were the pros and cons?

    Frogeye.

    Ladies and Gents,

can I ask what the point of a discussion is if all you are going to contribute is "send me the PM" and "PM sent"?

Kinda pointless, really, seeing as this is a discussion forum. I think it would be of great benefit to the forum if actual discussion was started on the course.

All, having done this course myself here is a general overview of it.

This course covers a huge range of subjects. you have the pm side of things but also finance and accounting, economics, hrm etc so it is giving a good overview of various areas abit with a pm focus.
One thing i will say is that it is tough going. you need to be putting in 15-20 hours a week to get through the reading of modules. you will have a tutorial about once a month for 3 hours, there will be assignments due aswell. so you need to consider all this if you are working and how it will fit in with family life etc. the one thing with distance learning can be the isolation so you need to be well motivated to get through the work load but you'll get to know the others in your tutorial group and ye'll start working together.
there is generally about 25/30 people on the course. you will then be broken down into regions for your tutorial groups. so for e.g there might be a group in dublin, limerick and cork depneding on no.s. Each tutorial group is assigned a tutor. this person will hold the tutorials, mark the assigments and be there at teh end of a phone/email to help out with any problems you may have. Then once/twice a semester you go to ul for a specialist tutorial for the full day which would be given by an expert in that field.
there are 2 in company projects done during the 2 years. this is where a group of 4/5 of you will go into one of your organisations to carry out a project in value management and planning and control. this is the part of putting the theory into practice!
Centre for PM in UL have a very high rating in the industry and this course is now accrediated by PMI so if you're in the pm industry it won't be wasted.
the two years fly by, as your just talking about 13 weeks a semester and there are two semesters each year (Sept - Dec & end Jan to May), with written exams at the end of each. fees are generaly paid at the start of each semester but they have introduced a flexible payment option where you pay in i think 3 installments over the semester.

If there is anything else you need to know let me know :)

Fee's are about 8 thousand a year are they? Part time distance learning. Do company's usually pay for employees to attend.
