    I bought an iPhone as a gift. Can I activate it on my o2 SIM now and put their Vodafone SIM in later?

    activate with o2 sim yes
    but unless its on 3.1.2 software you cant unlock it to work on vf (yet), assuming its a 3gs

    You'll need a Vodafone SIM then.

    The phone is locked to vodafone , just activate with whoevers sim your givin it as a gift too
