I will be supervising the leaving and junior cert practical exams ( craft, life drawing e.t.c ) I have never done this before and was wondering if anyone with past experience could inform me of the basic procedural format for each of the exams. There may also be some students carrying out the Leaving cert applied which I am unfamiliar with, do the exams differ for these pupils?

The schools will have received instructions to be given to superintendants over the last few days. Maybe pop in to get it cause there is quite a bit to get your head round.

L.C. craft is a 5 hr exam. The imaginative composition/still life is a 2hr 30min exam. The Life drawing is an hour.

The craft will be arranged by the teacher so that the students can get a lunch. The teacher is only to be in the room to act as a technician not to assist students.
The I. composition/S. life will be set up before the exam starts.
There are two poses for the life drawing, one 15min pose and one 45 min pose. You will have instructions for the poses but the teacher will probably have told the models already and organised any props needed.

The art teacher will have everything organised for you. The students will know what they are doing and the models will have been arranged for the life drawing. You have a few forms to sign plus you have to make a seating plan map, just so the state exams can see where everyone was sitting at the time. The Art teacher will help you with everything though, hopefully! Let me know if you need to know anything else.:)

Yes they do, but afaik the LCA Craft and Design Specialism exam is in June.

It's not a great idea to mix exams in the one centre.

My sons art teacher has been missing for the passed two weeks, his school did not find a replacement art teacher. The school have not assisted him in any way with regards the exam tomorrow. His preparatory work has not been signed off either.
    [SNIP]

Any additional pointers to accompany the exam paper would be appreciated. He's making a lino cut and doesn't know what materials he should bring etc.

Gigiwagga, I have removed the name of the school as it is not relevant.

He should be fine, don't worry. The preliminary sheet is the sheet that should be worked on the week before the exam. The preparatory sheet is done during the exam. If he is doing lino the school will have the materials for him and its up to him to decide how many colours he plans on cutting. To be honest, lino printing can be quite quick, the cutting is the thing that is time consuming. The art teacher should be available to act as a technician in the classroom only, not to aid the students. However, they should have been available in the lead up to the exam. The art teacher or principal will have to sign his worked sheets to say it is his own work. Would suggest ringing the school tomorrow to find out what the story is.
