Forming An Original Funk"ish" Band

Hi there. I am looking for musicians who would like collaborate and form a new band. I want to form band that makes original music that will get people moving on the dance floor. I'm looking for people who are interested in working hard to get the band established and then braking out onto the scene when things are nice and tight. Stage performance and crowd interaction will be important as I want to form a band that can really get the crowd going and having a good time.

In terms of style I put "ish" in brackets because although there will be elements of hard core funk it isn't strictly funk. The idea is to create original material that draws on feel good dance music that has real feeling. Soul, Funk, Blues and Rock will all have there space and although I love the old school stuff I want to look at making modern accessible music while still drawing from early stuff.

That's the general direction but other influences are more than welcome, though the aim is to develop a style and sound. As well as the floor stompers there will be a few slow/ambient tracks to add diversity to the set. There will probably be a few covers in the start to help with giging a descent set.

My story is I live for music and am serious about making a go at it. I play guitar, clarinet, mostly backing vocals, melodica/a little keys, and a few other instruments. I'm 27, live near Dublin City enter, have been playing music most of my life and am a full time musician. I am also a sound engineer and do mainly studio work. I've played in a good few bands of different styles in a few different rolls. Blues, Rock, Funk, Psychedelic, Experimental and Folk. I played clarinet and backing vocals for 3 years in a funk band, 2 years on bass in a 3 piece rock band, and a few others over the years playing rhythm, lead and slide guitar.

The line up I'm hoping for is: Drums, Bass, Percussion/plus anything else, Keys/guitar or other instrument, female and male vocals, some sort of wind or string instruments. I'll be concentrating on guitar, vocals and some clarinet. I want to get a group of people together that (i) love music (ii) work hard (iii) are easy to work with. The band will based around Dublin City Center.

I reckon the Bass and Drums will be paramount so ideally I'm hoping to get at least one of these first with people who are willing to help doing some ground work.

If anyone is interested or has any ideas I'd love to hear from you.

    Chers

Thanks for the replies. So far we have: bass, drums, guitars, some vocals and some keys, some wind. We are getting the basics covered for now and are still keeping an ear to the ground about a few other things for the lineup.

    Peace.
