Lagos, Portugal - layout of town & beaches - where to stay?

    hi,

I've posted already about Vilabranca apartments in Lagos, but having second thoughts now. They seem to be a bit away from both the town and the beaches.
Looking at staying near the Marina/overlooking the Marina which I believe is approx 5 minutes walk from centre of Lagos town - is that correct?

Could someone please recommend a nice, 1 or 2 bed, self catering apartment with a pool that is either beside the town or beside the beach so that we're not constantly walking between one and the other?

Thanks in advance, I'm cracking up trying to decide on somewhere as have had previous horror package holidays where the accommodation was horrible and really don't want to end up with the same this time around :(

Stayed in villabranca last summer and although they are nice, big, clean etc they are about a 10 minute (minimum) walk to centre. its downhill into the town but its an uphill slog back to the appts!
lagos is lovely, and fairly small but the villabranca are a bit far out for what you are looking for.
Reception will call you a cab anytime and they arrive pretty quick. I'd recommend the appts but would probably look for something nearer myself next time i'm back because we loved lagos and the surrounding areas.

villabranca is a fair trek alright from the main beach (not far from the cove beach), to get to the main beach from villabranca you would have to head back into town as far as the marina, cross the footbridge and then walk back the way you came, its probably a 15-20 min walk or more

the marina is right next to the centre of town correct

i didn't stay in lagos btw so i cannot recommend any accommodation

Marina Club Aparthotel. I've stayed there twice. You get a bedroom and kitchen/sitting room. Kitchen is v large. It's basically on the marina. Highly recommended. Sunworld do it as part of a package.

    Thanks for all the replies.

Re the Marina Club aparthotel, are the apartments nice & clean ya? Have a fear of dirty apartments (bad experience in Greece many years ago :( )

How far of a walk would they be from either the centre of Lagos, or the main beach?

    thanks

I'd recommend you have a look on tripadvisor for photos and reviews. I felt they were extremely modern and spacious, no issues with dirt there whatsoever. Here's an example from tripadvisor of the kitchen. Make sure you don't get the studio apartments though as they are far smaller.

I suppose it was a 5 - 10 mins walk to both beach and town centre. There is an area at the marina with a number of restaurants and shops though.

Thanks everyone. Unfortunately the Marina Club aparthotel is double the price of the Vilabranca, so I think we may have to put up with being a bit outside of the town.

Is it worth a trip to either Alvor or Vilamoura from Lagos do you think?
