I have created a solo project called "Retreat From Moscow". The album's name is "In Search of Home" and it's all recorded in my bedroom. I just want some feedback regarding sound quality and song writing quality. Here are two songs below.

Bare in mind that I am using a shure sm57 for everything with a m-audio pre-amp and audacity :confused:.

The first one is named "Outside Colorado"

The second one is called "Home"

  • Hi

Ive had a listen to both of your songs, first off, in terms of the recording quality, it sounds pretty good to me. I dont hear anything that stands out as being "off", except maybe your vocals a little bit.

I do like your songs, I just dont like your voice. That is just me personally, other people may love it, but its not a voice I could listen to for too long. The songs are very well constructed, you obviously have talent in that regard. Hope the project works out for you, if you get any more songs recorded post em up and we'll have a listen man.

    Good luck!

Thanks for the criticism. Though, I always thought my voice was the least offensive part of my music. I guess I'll have to see what others think too.
I am glad to read that the production isn't lacking. That was the problem with my first album under a different band name.

here's another song called "The man you hoped I'd be"

    check it out

    Hey Meathawk,
I was pleasantly surprised by Outside Colorado, really liked The Real Home and loved The Man You Hoped I'd Be. Isint Audacity just a fantastic recording tool? I'm using my old Tascam analogue 4 track and using a 1/8 to phono lead straight into my Crap soundcard and it's deadly. But I digress, great stuff on the songs. I'm just getting into songwriting again after a few years, and love the creative buzz I get from it. Keep it up.

I liked the first song, nicely put together. I think the vocals are off slightly but I'm no expert! ...The chord arrangement is also put together well and the lick over that suits.nice

hey dude, production is great on both tracks, and its very easy listening.. i like the vocals also, its different but in a good way.. kinda reminds me of bon iver a bit.. and i know it can be hard to pull that kind of music off....
so fair play man, keep up the good work:)
