I have been out of the game for a few years at least 15 or so and am about to take the plunge and join a club. So the help I need is to know what racquet to get and what shops are best for purchasing racquets? I use to Wilson back in the day but I doubt if my racquet from 15 years ago would be up to much today. :D

If you're based in Dublin then Martyn Evans Sports in Fitzwilliam LTC would be the place to go. The staff can advise you on the best racquet to go for, and the prices are the best non-internet prices around (not counting special sale prices in other shops). The advise is the clincher though in my opinion, at least until you know enough about your style of play to be able to know what to look for on line.

I can't recommend any shops to you, but if your 15 year old Wilson rasonably good (ie not a kids rackets and the strings and grip are ok) then I recommend that you play a few games with it first before buying a new racket. Then you will know a bit more about your own game and how you play and what sort of racket is best suited to you.

My 15 year old Wilson is grand, I was just thinking racquet technology would have moved on a bit since then. I don't want to the be like Bjorg when he tried to come back with a wooden racket. :)

In that case just get it restrung (after 15 years the strings are dead!) and start playing. Maybe in a few months you'll decide to upgrade, but at least by then you will have a better idea as to what style of play you have now and can narrow down the racquet selection to suit.

I have used the same racket for the last 15 years - Pro Kennex Asymmetric, I know all its spots. When I tried to change up to a Prince (can't remember the exact one).
Couldn't really get into it, so went back to the Pro Kennex.
I only have one Pro Kennex however, I would love to get my hands on another.
Does anyone know if they are still made?
