Just got an OK quote from a travel agent for mid aug. Its 4 nts in NY followed by 8 in Cancun mexico. Quick query for anyone who has ever been to mexico, the resort is dreams and is all-inclusive, Is it similar to the carribean/mauritius in the sense that you have to go all-inclusive as tourist prices are higher otherwise. Anyone ever been to mexico at this time of the year and can recommend? Is it cheap there in general/safe at night?

    Hurricane risk in August ?

I think hurricanes can be May to September.

I've been to Cancun / Playa del Carmen. Not everyone goes all inclusive.... and OK you are paying tourist prices but it is not expensive out.

Much preferred to say Dom Rep / Jamaica in terms of "feeling safe" and friendliness at night etc.

Any quotes for a few nights in NY and then hawaii were fierce expensive, plus a lot of online diggin suggests the place is a bit overrated?

I've been to Mexico but I was backpacking. I was in Playa del Carmen for a few days and then went to an island off Cancun called Isla Mujeres. Didn't stay in Cancun itself as most people I met along the way didn't recommend it as it was built up, noisy, loads of huge loud clubs, and full of American tourists. I was there in mid March as well which was spring break time and that made it extra busy. Isla Mujeres is gorgeous...really laid back and has a great beach and great restaurants. The ferry takes about 30 minutes and if you want a night on the tiles in Cancun you can get a ferry at night time, party the night away and get the first ferry back at 4 or 5 am.

Ok forget mexico, Weve decided on barbados. Only thing stopping me booking now is the mixed reviews for the hotels. Seems most 5* dont do all inclusive leaving 4 * hotels. Checked reviews for almond/crystal cove/turtle beach ect and very very mixed to say the least, anyone here actually been to barbados and can advise me?

    Cheers,
    Al

I was down the way in St lucia in the Rendezvous hotel all inclusive, and
couldn't recommend it enough food, drink, people, hotel ,water sports brilliant 110%
I'd imagine barbados should be similar.
