Hi, Myself and my husband are going to Montreal for 31 nights, dates are 20/09/2010-21/10/2010. We hope to stay in a hotel (central location) for the first 3 nights in order to find an apartment/house (accommodation with kitchen and bathroom) for the other 28 nights (4 weeks). I've been looking on craiglist for the monthly rentals but I feel that I would like to see the property first before booking anything which means we've to do it all when we get there in a short time frame. Firstly could anyone tell me a good located hotel/motel/b&b etc that we could stay in for the first 3 nights (we were thinking that around Mont Royal is a central location for hotel and the short term stay). Our budget is small 136 dollars (cad) for the 3 nights. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance

I stayed at two hotels in Montreal last year. The Lord Berri which is quite near the bus station (handy for the airport bus if your arriving that way). The rooms were good and large and it is about a 30 minute walk from the main downtown area. It was a nice quiet hotel , though if you are looking for nite-life there is a good area of bars and stuff not too far away. The square around the bus station is a bit seedy, but I felt quite safe.

The 2nd hotel I was at (after a side trip to Toronto) was the Best Western Europa downtown on Rue Drummond. Its a side street off the main downtown street, and is very close to all the main shops and things. The rooms there were a bit smaller, but both hotels were clean and had friendly staff. Both hotels had large groups of students staying there, but I think it was spring break time I was there. I booked them both through the roomex website.

With only $45 per night to spend on the hotel I think you're choices will be limited.

Hotels.com only list 1 place which is within your budget. Expedia and booking.com don't have anything.

Hotels.com suggested the "Hotel Park Avenue" at an average of $52 per night.
