    Hi,
My company is looking to start writing a blog. We currently host our own website on Sun Solaris, and was looking to host our own wordpress installation on Apache for the blog site.
Our security officer is against this however. He reckons its very hackable, and we should develop our own instead.
Anyone else been in the same boat?

I see the point of your Security Officer.

Personally I would recommend you to create a new host, such as blog.companyname.com

So this host would only contain this blog and would be a seperate machine from the website. It could be hosted in house or not. If in house, simply take all the necessary measures, DMZ etc.

Even if it gets hacked, which is unlikely, but still possible, it will only affect this box.

Solaris is probably a bit overkill for this, especially if you have to pay for the OS. Now it might be due to supportability reason, which I understand.

Set it up on a subdomain, as already suggested.

Developing your own blog software is probably complete overkill.
