I thought his description of a Ford Focus with 120BHP was a little complimentary of the Ford Engines. More like 90BHP.

I didn't hear it all though but heard the clip of Matt when Anton drifted the car. :D

I was listening to it on the way home. It sounded great. Matt was completely speechless for most of the time.

He is well used to being able to handle a car.

It's some car ok. I had the pleasure of doing over 100 raod miles in one last summer in the USA.

It's very very quick but absolutely facile to drive, and comfortable too.

Wonder if it's the blue one that was spotted recently.

I have to say I enjoyed this.

Anton Savage is a very rare thing in Ireland - a journo who actually has an interest in cars, and it shows, the rest of his ilk are just jurnos who are told to write about cars !

I'm converted to a regular listener after 1 show !

As no one else has said it.

Thank you very much to the OP who posted the link.

I don't like him, I've listened to plenty of his "pieces" on Matt's show and he's a bit of a plonker really. Plenty of crap reports.
That one yesterday was good though, better than the norm.

Brilliant stuff, some of Matt's reactions reminded me of my Mam to be honest.

AS: I'll just feather the clutch.......she really goes at 6800 RPM.
    MC: Ah jaaaayysusssss.....

Nope, worked perfectly for me using Chrome.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 66,439 ✭✭✭✭unkel

Working fine for me in Opera

    BTW:

    V8 R8 - €164k
    V10 R8 - €217k

That is a big difference. Worth it?

Yep. Totally. It's horribly distorted by taxes here sadly.

Difference in the US is $31,800

I don't think it is? Both here are in the same VRT band (and obviously the same VAT rate), so both have the same tax percentage. The V10 is about a third more than the V8. This is also roughly true in say Germany and - I just looked it up - the difference in the US is roughly the same, $114k vs $146k

My point is would you pay a third more for a car for a relatively small performance increase (the V8 is already a supercar in my book)

I dont think its worth it but for the record If i had the money I wouldnt be walking into a Audi dealership for a supercar. Straight to either Porsche or Ferrari would be my way of thinking.

    +1
    Stop off at Lamborghini too.

Especially with 220k in my pocket.

If it's a 09 KE one, they need to gtfo of the overtaking lane on the M4 (spotted on Sunday :P )

There doesn't seem to be any pictures or videos of the R8 with Matt and Anton. Anyone know where the private road was?

But US$31800 = c. €24100, but the difference in retail price here is a whopping €53000

There are a subtle few differences in trim and spec. The biggest difference is the engine obviously. The V10 comes from a Lambo, but you can get the same V8 engine in an A4 (S4).

I didn't drive the V8 so I can't compare them, but bearing in mind the noise, performance, rarity, and the x factor €24100 is probably value.

p.s. €164000 for any car is bordering on the obscene btw.

I doubt very much it was a private road,i thinking they were using the term private road in the way a poster on a forum would i.e me and my mate had a little 3rd gear run on a private road last night...

Its to hear speed and powerful engined cars being champion and lauded on main stream Irish radio for a change,im guessing the talk off 6k rpm, sideways, drifting eetc had the Gaybo brigade e mailing Joe duffy like there was no tomorrow :D

There is an estate (in kildare I think) where they run driving courses for transition years students. Obviously being under age the students are not licenced so the private roads around that country estate are ideal. Anton must have been somewhere like that.

No, I think they would have been on an actual private road/track as opposed to a public road.

We can think what we want who is to know for sure! it must be some serious private road as they were giving it beans for ages!!

My own personal thoughts are it was mondello, but maybe one of Audis stipulations was he couldn't take it on a track, who knows!

Nah I'd have an R8, just to be different, theres just no way I'd ever buy a Ferrari, I love them but no.

My usual way of thinking too. That said, the R8 is a bit of a Gallardo, is that fair to state? If so, it's the first ever Audi badged car that is actually good value for money compared to its siblings :D

You're missing my point. The relative difference in price is roughly the same: the V10 is about a third more expensive than the V8 (in any market, Ireland, Germany or the US)

There's one in Maynooth but its no country estate, its a purpose built training track. No idea if thats what they used but it has the advantage of being decent condition tarmac thats definitely not a public road!

    Got to agree with Tea
Savage is a clown, when you hear the words "now that's sideways" you get the feeling that some bourgeois south dub would be incapable.

They need to get some of those Donegal pilots testing the R8,
Coopers "Jaaayyysssuuuss" would defo have some passion then!

I like Savage, he is one of the only real car enthusiasts in the Irish media. He is handy enough behind the wheel too.
