    *Sighhhhh* This should be good......

Why do you say that Sparks? Was the lighting of a particuarly low standard? Did the sound engineering seem rushed and haphazard? Too many (or not enough) vampire lesbians?

How about doing a programme on growing up as a teenager in a town where if you don't join the GAA or football club all that's left is to is drink and smoke your youth away?

RTÈ - Pulse of Dublin the Nation

Didn't see it - but I'm dying to see RTE's new series, called "Growing Up Ghey".

There was a big thread on this last week. Also - TV forum, no?

While it may not be the best documentary ever made, it certainly serves a purpose in showing gay and straight teenagers that there are gay young people out there and they, like all young people, go through rough times growing up.

No harm to expand people's horizons a bit.

But of course the "Oh the f*cking gays, they're so gay, they shouldn't be allowed on the telly" brigade will no doubt have to weigh in sooner or later.

    *taps foot, looks at watch*

I thought that show was bordering on child abuse:mad: How the hell can they interview 14 year old girls about being lesbians? To call oneself a lesbian means that you engage in same-sex activities with females, at least thats what it meant the last time I heard. My blood was boiling watching it. How dare they use children to discuss sexual matters, gay or not.

    No it doesn't.

If you're straight, did you only become straight the first time you engaged in sexual activity with a member of the opposite sex?

It means they are attracted to members of the same sex, rather than the opposite. That's all it means. The children were discussing matters that affect their lives and mental health. Why the hell should they not discuss it? If you're not interested in problems that gay teens have then don't watch a programme about them.

As has been pointed out, that's not what it means. And more pertinently, if you managed to watch the whole show and still somehow came away from it with this impression, TBH the problem's not the show.

The whole point of the exercise was to try and put this notion to rest once and for all.

Yeah, because people under the age of 18 NEVER have sex.

    Watched it there tonight.
I find it genuinely incredible in this so-called modern, progressive country of ours, people are still bullied/singled out for being gay.
Felt sorry for a couple of the kids involved.

Without solid, valid reasons for this statement I'm afraid you're going into the 'Daily Mail wannabe' box.

Did the teenagers engage in explicit talk of a sexual nature on camera? Or did they just talk about being gay?

If a 14 year old boy or girl had talked about liking members of the opposite sex would your blood be 'boiling' as you so melodramatically put it?

I'm sure that at some point 14-y-o girls were asked about kissing boys on TV?

Oh yes, lets move back to the 60's where we don't discuss those private things and pretend it doesn't happen.

Only caught the first episode so far and thought it was very good TV. Very enlightening and really good to hear from how the family members reacted.

We need more of this type of program to help remove the stigma that some people still attach to being gay in Ireland.

    FAIL!!!

I don't think they were talking about sex but same sex attraction. Why shouldn't they talk about it?? Sure every teen show is about boys boys and more boys.

The show was about growing up gay in modern Ireland. I think it was great to see that something like this is on tv and shows that we are really growing as a nation. (some of us)

How horrible was it when that girl got a message calling her a f*ggot and that she'll get the **** kicked out of her. Some nasty f*ckers out there.
