I find that MCPA works well on thistles (don't know what dog roots are). I have used Mortone on them in the past but found that it stunted grass growth for several weeks and months after spraying. Its best to get them before they seed. Before the end of June if you can.

For fields with just occasional / light weed problem, get out the knapsack:pac:
Bust a few calories, bust the auld cholestrol, save a bunch of money in chemicals, avoid stunted grass. A couple of cans will cover quite a bit of ground with not such bad weed cover:P

We knocked together a spot sprayer for the 3pt linkage:
    >frame from old cone fert spreader
    >electric pump from e-bay
    >40 gallon barrel
    >lance from old knapsack sprayer
    >10m garden hose

Saves the already bad back from getting worse!

Does a great job for spraying along lane and round the yard and the emerging clumps of rushes in clean fields...

We'll need to get someone in to spray whole fields for rushes though, later in the year.

dog roots are docks i reckonn, we use duplosan onn the docks but this kills clover, if you want to keep clover you can use something like eagle but must graze it after so many days as it will only stunt the grass but whenn grazed will be grand out again

if its just the odd one you could dig them up i bose :pac: used to do it in NZ, go arounnd after the cows ate out the paddock with a tool to dig them up, trouble is the docks go down a fair depth
