    Hi,
I have returned to cycling recently and i'm eager to give mountain biking to go. Does anyone know where one could hire a MTB in Mayo/ Galway?

Also any good trails in Mayo (i hear there is a trail in Knockranny, Westport?) and Galway? I hear that Derroura is quite difficult for a newbie?

    Any advice welcome.:)

Someone else may confirm this but I think there is a hire point at the head of Derroura.Mountain Trail Bike Shop in Galway offer a service. Check their website.http://mountaintrailbikeshop.com
And definitely you can hire bikes in Westport. Knockranny is used for the MTB leagues in the west

Mountain Trail Bike Shop is gone, the owner has a new shop in Westside called Westside Cycles.
There are bikes for hire very close to the start of the trail in Derroura, ring the bike shop in Moycullen and they'll give you the info: http://www.mbikeworks.ie/

The Connacht Summer MTB league is on Saturday mornings in the following places:
    17/4 Cong
    1/5 Westport
    29/5 Clarinbridge
    12/6 Moorehall
    10/7 Roscahill
So you can MTB in any of the above places, or better yet you could try taking part in the league, it's good craic and there's a category for every level of ability.

There is a mountain bike hire just before you come to derroura mountain bike trail. They have really good mountain bikes aswell. The name of the person who runs it is Bernie McDonagh. To contact her regarding information/ hire her number is 0872273144. She can give you directions to the bike hire. It is on the right just before derroura trail
