iPhone 3G questions ( Coverage?, Jailbroken Apps/loss of functionality)

I've some questions regarding the iPhone 3G.

    1) The add for the iPhone 3GS says 3G required. Does this mean that the iPhone only connects to 3G networks or will it connect to HSPDA networks (etc..) too. I have poor coverage at home (1 -> 2 bars) and there is no 3G coverage.

    2) If I unlock & jailbreak the iPhone (and move to 3 Ireland) will I be able to use all the apps in the apps store? I would assume I can, but I was told otherwise by someone today though they weren't sure what they were talking about.

    3) If I unlock & jailbreak the iPhone (and move to 3 Ireland) , will I lose any functionality for the phone? Will it stop it being able to connect to iTunes & iTunes store and can I upgrade the OS (assuming I would have to rejailbreak the OS after)

Thanks for any help. I will be buying the phone 2nd hand tomorrow and would like the info before I dish out.
