The fuel economy of 54mpg and the relaibilty of the VW group engineering at a reduced cost is appealing

Anyone think i'd be stupid to go for it at about 3,500euro

nice colour, but seems dear for some reason. saw a mint 1.8 20V SE 04 for around 4000 lately. that looks basic enough and should be around Octavia money. that's Passat money TBH.

Wouldnt say you're mad to go for it at all OP but are you sure you cant get an Octavia or Bora for similiar money? They're all the same car underneath but the Bora would have better resale value and the octavia would be easier to find parts for, and i find both better looking IMO

dunno about the parts thing, Toledo shares loads with the Leon for interior/exterior bits (and Bora, Octavia, Golf etc for the mechanicals)

I'd rather a Toledo to an Octavia, but I wouldn't pay any extra.

it is the basic spec so i would expect to a pay a bit less also the seats are the bog standard ones i had them in my leon and found them really uncomfortable for long journeys so i swapped them out for the higher cupra spec seats you would find a toledo octavia etc up north for alot less including vrt

You would get a nice comfo line passat same year for that.
