So it looks like Remedy and Microsoft are following Ubisoft with live action promos.
Called Bright Falls it seems to set the scene for Mr Wakes adventures.
They're due out on XBL today.

The New York Times has the first episode:

It's distinctly Twin Peaks inspired, not a bad thing, although it's not a scratch on Lynch.

The sequel to a game that's taken the best part of a decade to be made, and hasnt even been released yet?

i'm sure it's a promotional prequel....haven't had much success with these types of promotional tools (Dead Space Downfall etc) in the past, but might check out the first one anyway.

I'm glad you enjoyed it! I thought it was crap :L I loved Dead Space the game though; awesome Resi 4 in space :)

    sorry to hijack the thread.

Alan Wake; anyone else getting a massive Silent Hill vibe?!

I did a bit of sleuthing and here's what I've come up with :)
-Alan Wake is described to be psychological action thriller
-Plot summary: Alan Wake is a popular horror writer. His Wife is Alice disappears. He comes to Bright Falls to cure his imsomnia. He is cured, but now his dreams seem to become reality.
-Game will be played in 3rd person view (Like Max Payne)
-Alan Wake is armed with revolver and flashlight
-Light plays important part in Alan Wake (Much like Alone In The Dark PSX)
-Alan Wake was inspired by Stephen King novels and Twin Peaks

-Alan Wake introduces a free-roam 3-dimensional city (Grand Theft Auto)
-Alan Wake will introduce TV-series like episodes (Much like in Alone In The Dark 4, Fahrenheit)
-You get to drive different cars in Alan Wake
-Alan Wakes environment will introduce some wildlife
-Alan Wake does not have loading times while entering building or new area
-Play area is roughly 36 square miles (10 x 10 kilometres).

-Silent Hill is described to be psychological thriller
-Plot summary: (Silent Hill 2) James Sunderland receives a letter from his wife talking about Silent Hill. Only thing is, his wife died 2 years ago. He comes to Silent Hill to discover the truth in this bizarre twisted town, somewhere between reality and a hellish nightmare.
-Game will be played in 3rd person view (Like Max Payne)
-James Sunderland is armed with revolver and flashlight
-The game has very little light. (i.e. it's mostly dark inside; but foggy outside)
-You explore Silent Hill, going from place to place, uncovering the truth and meeting strange people and twisted killer monsters.
-Silent Hill was inspired by (partly) the works of Francis Bacon, Resident Evil, Alone in the Dark....

If you've never played Silent Hill; i'd recommend picking up SH 2 for the PS2; it's their best story IMO. Graphics have aged a bit though. GameTrailers did a cool retrospective on the series; give it a watch!

it reminds me alot of the ring or any of those jap psychological horrors. Slightly worried that the game will be a let down but at least its a step away from the barrage of fps and open world games.

I have really missed games like Silent Hill 2. There hasnt been anything like it since. The other Resis and Silent Hills dont count.
