I want to temporarily put a new set of Prolite wheels on a Tiagra 9 speed bike.I can't find much info on the hubs.
It is my understanding that 10 speed only freehubs have slightly higher splines and 9 speed cassettes simply won't go on.Is this correct??
(I am not at home so can't compare with other stuff that I have).

The 9speed cassette I have fits nice and snug and shifts perfectly so I think I am good to go but I want to make sure I am not missing something.(And risking damage to freehub.)

    All (semi educated:)) opinions welcome.

I asked a related question a few weeks ago. The answers were both helpful and confusing.

That is correct. Most hubs are 8/9/10 compatible; there are relatively few 10 speed only hubs. You won't be able to damage one though as the cassette simply won't go on (the splines will be too high, I have tried before.) If you got it on, it is compatible.

Generally only the Shimano Dura Ace hubs are 10 speed only compatable, as far as I know 99% of all other hubs including all Shimano hubs are 8/9/10 speed compatable

Thanks lads. I thought the situation was as you say but I am knackered tired and started to doubt myself.
When I googled the wheels the wiggle site Q and A said they are 10 speed only which is wrong I think but made me doubt myself more.

Just been for a spin on Prolite Braccianos (sp?). Sexy wheels for the money. Pretty durable too I would say- I was looking down at the rear mech and I clattered two potholes at speed with under inflated tyres after 50 metres.Still running true.:D May as well start as you mean to go on I always say.:)
