Hi Guys - just wondering what you all thought regarding what type of discount one can get on second hand cars these days from a dealer?

So the quoted price on carzone or in newspapers etc - how much might one get this down?

Are car dealers really having it tough at the moment?

Might you be able to get 10-15% off do you think? - if spending 15 or 16k?

That's not a question anyone can answer.

It's up to you to do your research and your sums, then go and negotiate.

yep, try and get comparible models and compare prices offered. the discount and the asking price are set by the dealer and neither may be a reflection of how much the car is actually worth.

Should get that off the screen price if you have the money and no trade in. If you need dealer finance they won't give any discount. Even a dealer struggling to shift stuff won't knock off loads without haggling.

Never found that to be the case, dealers have no problem doing finance, they get comission on it. I've never heard of discounts being refused because the car is being bought on finance.

In answer to your original question, the discount available is wholly a function of how competitively priced the car is in the first place.

If anything, they'll discount the car more - because if they jack up the finance by a euro or two a month, their finance commissions are worth more than the profit on the car.
