Fitting a car kit

    Hi,

I just bought a Parrot rki8400 for my car (2006 subaru impreza rx) and I really don't trust someone like Halfrauds to fit it.

Most places that I've looked at for fitting are a bit of a drive from where I'm living in Dublin city center when I work weekdays 9-6.
I've been given quotes of around €100 (€22 of which is the wiring adaptor) to have it fitted by a mobile installer which seems a bit crazy

I've looked at guides online for fitting the unit and it seems pretty straightforward so I think I'm just going to fit it myself. The only part that I'm a bit concerned about is wiring the microphone up.

How difficult is it, do you have to remove the door pillars and the roof lining etc?

    Thanks in advance!

No, just pull the trim on the pillars slightly, tuck the wire in behind and run it away up. Some cars the roof lining will move slightly, some won't, but if you are mounting the mike high up on the drivers side you should be able to do a tidy enough job without removing any of the trim/lining. Trying to bring it out somewhere near the mirror could be a pain.
Some cars have nasty sharp plastic burrs hidden on the edge of the door pillar trim panels, will give ya a nice papercut, and could strip insulation off the cable too, just something to look out for...

thanks v much for the reply langdang. Only reason I was going to keep it in the center of the car instead of the pillar was because of wind noise.

In terms of running the mic wire from the head unit to the pillar, do you have to actually remove parts of the dash?

No, you should be able to run the cable across to above the pedal box without removing anything. I usually go up along the gap between the side of the dash and the door rubber but depends on the car.

ahh ok I hadn't even thought about running it that way. That makes a lot of sense thanks for the advice everyone!

Yup, what colm said - if the wire for the mike leaves the back of the head unit you should be able to route it so you can grab it from somewhere in the footwell or under the steering column, carry on over to where the dash and door rubber meet, up the side hidden under door rubber and up behind the pillar trim., if you are going to mount on the pillar.

But if you are going to bring it out of a console or whatever near the mirror it might work better to start there and work back to the head unit, assuming the connector end of the wire is easier to thread through whatever gaps near the mirror rather than the mike. Someone else here might know how to remove/loosen the roof lining but I'd avoid it if I could, if you can just roughly run the wire, then push it out of sight between the roof lining and the windshield to tidy it?

Any online guides? There's nearly always some american or UK forum where someones tackled it before.

In fairness 100euro including the adapter ain't bad really, if he comes recommended and he can do a tidy job to the centre of the car.
