Primary school teaching interview for college

    Hi,

I am planning to return to college on a full time basis to do primary school teaching as a mature student. I have my interview on the 19th May for the 3 Edu colleges, St Pats, Marino and Rathmines. I am not worried about the interview, except for the part that will be conducted in Irish.
I have honours Irish from when I did the Leaving Cert, but I'm 33 now and havn't spoken it in about 15 years so I need to emmerse myself in it for the next few weeks.
I have just returned from teaching English in South America and have been thinking in Spanish all the time so need to get started immediately. If anyone has any advice as to what type of questions are asked, and how long the Irish part is, I would be most grateful. I am going to Inis Oirr for a week and will be sitting in a friends all Irish school for a few days, as well as doing some revision of my own. Thanks in advance

I did the post grad for primary teaching but I imagine the interviews are similar. The interview was mostly conversational, they asked me about my family, pets, any holidays I had been on and had I my Christmas shopping done, things like that. They also asked me to read a short passage aloud and asked me a few questions about it. My impression of it was that it is much more casual than the English interview. Once you get back into thinking in Irish you'll be amazed how quickly it will come back to you. Best of luck with it :)

Start listening to Raidio na Gaeltachta and watching TG4, it will help a lot.

Didn't realise it was that basic, I had presumed they would be asking about why I decided to go back to college, what credentials did I feel I had to be a teacher, etc. I have bought some cd's to listen to and some books. Let me know how you get on in the interview!
