    http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-ps3slim-gets-45nm-rsx-blog-entry
Sony has released a new version of the PlayStation 3 Slim, with a revised, energy-saving RSX chip.

The new CECH-2100A revision of the hardware features a 45nm graphics chip, shrunk down from the 65nm version seen in the launch version of the Slim, and retains the 45nm Cell CPU from the existing model.

Additional tweaks to the motherboard also include the implementation of two 128MB XDR RAM chips in favour of the four 64MB modules seen in the original model. The cooling assembly of the new unit is also dialled back, and there's a different, lighter power supply contained within the console too.

All this can be witnessed in a tear-down of the new console by PocketNews.

The result is a machine that is cheaper for Sony to produce, cooler, and more power efficient. The site's tests of the new model reveal a 15 per cent drop in power usage compared to the existing Slim model, as you can see in these tests

Nice. Seen as my launch console is well and truly dead I'll be picking up one of these new slim models. Might wait for a Red Dead Redemption bundle offer

A bloke here filed preceedings with the Small Claims Court against the retailer who sold him a launch PS3. €700 is a lot of feckin' money to drop on something that packs it in there years later.

I got over 3 years heavy usage of games, internet and bluray. I have everything backed up and i was going to get a slim regardless. Filing preceedings is not a road i want to go down, i hope he wins his case though.

The case didn't go ahead as Xtravision sorted him out once they recieved court papers. Apparently most retailers either give in once it becomes official or they don't show up meaning the judgement will be in your favour.

If sony saved a dollar on every ps3 made by having it made in China instead of Japan they'd have it made there no matter what.

Anyone know when this new 2100A model is out here?

My PS3 ylod'd today. Wondering should I wait for the 2100A or just go with what's available now?

Also could someone tell me what the model number of the most recent slim is; 2000 or 2001? One other question; what does the 'A' stand for in the model number. Something to do with the region? Googled these questions but didn't get any clear answers!

    Thanks!

I honestly think relations are that frayed tbh.

No doubt they would import some components but I sincerely doubt they would outsource all production.

Interesting. I thought the warranty was only a year or something?

doesn't matter apparently as a warranty is in addition to your consumer rights. The thread was pretty long, it's a few pages back there....

Has anyone come across the CECH-2100xx slim yet?

Have been asking everywhere (if you count Cork as 'everywhere!) and still no sign although all the retailers are reporting shortages of PS3 slims so hopefully this is an indication that Sony are waiting to restock shelves with the 2100xx model?

Does anybody else get a load clicking from their slim after it heats up a little? Is this just heating plastic and is it normal?
