Legality Regarding Lasers?

Hey lads, just a quick question.

Being an amateur and all that this has never been an issue for me, but I just spotted a deal online and want to check I'm in the clear before ordering?

I believe from another hobby of mine(http://airsoft.boards.ie) that there is a limit of 5mW for lasers in Ireland. IIRC this is the spec for green and the limit changes for other colours but thats kinda of irrelevant. What I want to know is if this limit is only to handheld laser pens and the like or is a licence required for all lasers above that limit. The unit is 50mW Green/100mW Red and I don't want to pay for it then have customs destroy it:rolleyes:

    Any info appreciated,
    Thanks, Lethal.

Could be tricky, a friend of mine got caught with a real Light Sabre at customs a couple of years back.

I don't think there is a limit. You can openly buy lasers rated in Watts from suppliers.

If there is a limit, its unlikely enforced. Just make sure it has a CE mark.

Not sure on the legality of it but ive imported 50mw lasers no problem, they were part of a larger order so maybe thats why they got through.

I used to program laser shows which were 1-3 watts that could burn holes in cardboard@60ft  in various clubs and events round the country so I don't think you should have a problem with 50mw one ?

Where are you ordering from though may be the telltale .. if its direct from china you never know as you might need it certified even though if you DIY with a kit it no probs LOL
