Weight restriction coming from US

    Hi all,

    First post on Boards.ie!

I am flying from New York back to Dublin in August and was wondering which airline is the best with regards to weight restrictions? I'm not fussy which airline/airport in New York. I think Aer Lingus and Delta are the 2 main ones+i think offhand Delta might be better for the luggage. Not 100% sure though so would really appreciate any help here.

    Thanks
    Paul

Ps I tried doing a search on this but id didn't work

    # Passengers are permitted 1 bag under 23kgs (50lbs) free of charge.

In fairness, both clearly spell out the allowances and charges on their respective sites :)

Also be careful as they are quite strict about weight limits coming back from the US. 1lb overweight and you will be charged (on Continental it was a $50 flat fee for overweight bag). Continental pass this off as being "federal law" that all bags over 50lb have to be identified but I don't know how true this is.

Continental are very strict though at least they have a separate section set up to weigh your bags (this was in DC) before you join the queue to check-in so that you can re-jig your bags if possible without delaying others checking in.

All airlines give you a free 23kg bag, so they're all the same really :) just go for the one with the cheapest fares

We were about 2lb overweight in Jan coming from Newark and they didn't charge us.
