    Hi all,

I have a final round interview with the Director of a medium-sized company next week and I can't think of anything to ask him when we get to that 'So have you any questions for me?" part.

This is the third interview that I've had for this job and I've pretty much found out all I want to about it (bar the salary which obviously I can't ask the MD!!). The first round was a HR one where I asked all about the program (it's a grad program) and what kind of training there'd be, what kind of promotion opportunities there are, what structure the program takes etc.

The next next round was with the project manager so I asked him all about the different roles and responsibilities, what the day-to-day work is like, the age profile of the company, there's alot of travel involved so I asked about that aswell.

I've never had an interview with the head of the company before so I genuinely have no idea what kind of questions to ask - I feel like they'd have to be very impressive! If any one can give me any hints, or even better what kind of things they think he'd ask me, I'd be very grateful!

    Thanks! :-)

Tough one, I'd probably try to keep it about the company itself. Where does the MD see the company going, expansion plans etc.....maybe a bit about the management structures at the company, just make sure its not about something that you could know already from reading their internet page or documentation elsewhere.

maybe ask him where he sees the company in few years? As director he will have plans and would probably like to discuss with people as I am sure he is excited about plans of the business as most directors would be. He may not want to give too much away but may give a general synopsis of his ideas.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'd never actually thought of those I definitely ask him a question or two about that! I don't actualyl know that much about the company I mean I know what it does etc (it's a software development company) but I've tried to look it up on news websites to see where it's expanded and what it's done recently but nothing going!

I'm also kind of worried about what he's going to ask me - I presume it'll be very general questions but I could be completely wrong?!? Any-one any ideas?

Definitely ask him about the company direction and his vision for where it is going. Also ask him about the ideal person he would like to hire for this role and why that's his ideal. That way you'll know exactly what he's looking for and when you come to give your last pitch for why you are right for the job, you can match your examples to the sort of person he's looking for.

If he talks about expansion you could ask how he plans to fund that expansion. Some people may find that a cheeky question from a junior hire, but I think it's a fair question to ask. Firstly it shows interest in the business and an understanding of funding, secondly it will give you a good idea of the stability of the company. Do they have a pool of cash to fund expansion; are they getting grants from Enterprise Ireland; bank facility; investor taking equity stake; IPO etc? In my experience, too few junior hires ask those sort of questions, even those who have just completed a business course in college.

You don't want to appear cocky, but curious and interested is always a good sign.

    + 1.

I have phrased the above as in 'what are the key objectives that you wish to achieve within one year / five years and how can the prospective candidate help you achieve those goals'. If you get any ideas on the spot, put them forward as it may enhance your interview. It will demonstrate on the spot that you are proactive and can think on your feet.

I have also asked 'what do core skills/values do you look for in prospective candidates.'

I think two or three key questions like the above should be enough, you don't need to bombard them with questions.
