Type-R: EP3 or DC5?

Will probably buy one or the other in the coming months, but haven't started looking yet.

Slightly more power and an LSD in the DC5, considered possibly the best handling FWD car ever made. Nice coupé looks too. History can be difficult to ascertain tho.

EP3 has hatch practicality, but euro model has no LSD and is slightly lower power. Not interested enough to hunt down a JDM model tho.

EP3 seems to be typically a bit cheaper.

Which would you buy - before I start looking in earnest I'm slightly leaning towards a DC5.

I think your right to be leaning towards the dc5 such a sweet looking car.

Heres a a quality one completely stock the best way i think.

The LSD on the DC5 is a pain in the backside to live with on the Irish roads, and even the OEM suspension is fairly hard..

If i was going for a Type-R again, go for a UKDM EP3, a nice clean one from a Honda dealer and you get FSH, and you know it has'nt been street or track raced around Tokyo!

The EP3 looks well and handles great, so you down a few bhp on the dc5, but the Ep3 is more subtle looks and easier to live with.

my engine blew on my 2003 dc5
something to do with valve clearance
get yourself on itr-dc5.co.uk get as much info on the dc5 as you can
the english lads will say it when there selling a dc5
that the valve clearance has been done.
over here they havent a clue what it is.

best of luck mine was blue and i loved it but sold it on after the engine went .

Leaning towards the DC5 myself. It just looks so much better side by side wih the EP3.

Quite a lot of people are of the opinion that a DC2 handles better than the DC5. Personally I'd take a DC5 over an EP3 any day. The DC5 is a fantastic looking car, especially in black or blue. EP3s dont do much for me. I'd say scout around on an owners club for ones for sale as then you are most likely buying from someone that genuinely looked after their car and didnt drive the ring out of it.

I think its only swings and roundabouts between the 2 for daily driving at least, I never noticed a big difference from driving either the uk or jdm varients of the ep3, but the Dc5I found had more of a rawness to it, much like the Dc2 had in comparison to an Ep3.
Also watch out for engine mounts on a Dc5, they seem to all give hassle on higher mileage one's.

Jap EP3 has nice red recaros and red carpet though which are a nice touch, white is the only colour for them too imo - nice looking one here - http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/1280689

DC5 all the way, I'm not a fan of the EP3, plus there are quite a few 1.4s with tacky bodykits going around.

DC5 seems to be winning the contest. Suppose I better have a look at both and make sure. Been a while since I was in either.

First ever review I read of a DC5 said it was head and shoulders above the DC2. I know a lot of purists argue that the loss of double wishbones at the front means it couldn't handle as well as the DC2. (A few (not many) also argue the DA6 is better than the DC2)
