Is the micra tested?, I think a toyota yaris is a good step up from the micra, great cars, Micras are good sellers and prob best to sell it on private yourself and approach a dealer with cash.
Scrappage only works if she is buying a new car.
What part of the country are you in?

Micra is still worth a few hundred to someone starting off, advertise it for 500 ono and see how it goes.
What do you think of the yaris, you and the wife should visit a few dealers and check out a yaris or 2.
I am not in Dublin so I have no idea where you should go.
One thing I will say is your money will go futher if you buy private and you will have a better selection to choose from.
