Medical Card... What do ya reckon...

I need to get a medical card... got a root canal there and can't afford to pay it. Am on Jobseekers benefit (one you get using your stamps?)

But I work 2 days a week in a pub and earn €120 plus €163 dole ( i declare that I work one day because I do not have to declare sunday) So thats €283 per week. Pay off €250 per month for car loan and insurance.

That leaves me with approx €210 per week.

Am I entitled to the medical card? If not... can I pull this off...?

On the citizens info website it says that a single individual living with family is means tested and the limit is €162 per week, however, According to the HSE's guidelines, if your income is derived solely from Social Welfare allowances or benefits or HSE allowances you should be granted a Medical Card even though your payment is in excess of the Income Guidelines for your age and situation.

Could I ask my employer to give me a P45 then rehire me so i can claim that I am unemployed and claim that my weekly income is solely dependent on social welfare?

    Any advice or help?

I've heard before that certain companies do this for people... (i.e. claim that they did not finish their probation then rehire them so as to avoid paying recruitment agency fee's)

Are you looking to get a medical card to cover the cost of dental work already done? I am open to correction here but i very much doubt the medical card will cover such.

When you were getting the work carried out where you not aware of the costs involved?
In fairness €210 p/w after paying off your car loan and insurance isnt too bad judging by some of the stories on here.

As regards P45/medical card question i cannot answer that as it seems dodgy to me and i think it might be against the state benefits charter, so you might want to edit your post.

Medical card only covers emergency dental work

If you go to a dentist with a medical card- he/she will offer to remove the offending tooth- or do an amalgam filling (as appropriate). Root-canal treatment- not a snowballs chance in hell........
