DIY Mass Booklet - covers and binding?

Have volunteered to do the mass booklets for my sister's wedding this summer and while I've got the inside laid out and ready to print, I'm amazed at the cost of covers. Best deal on card to print myself is on Daintree, 150 sheets coming in at around €40 which still seems pricey to me for what is essentially only heavy paper?

Also does anyone have any hints for binding these. Long armed stapler can be finicky but I'm worried about pages falling out if I just use ribbon?

depends on the weight of card you use... can you get something lighter? I'm using 120gsm pearlised paper (Conqueror) from Reads which is 8euro per 50 pages and that's plenty heavy when I use regular 80gsm printer paper for the inside?
Honestly 40euro for 150 covers is still good value - you should see what printers/wedding stationery companies are charging for the same - 200euro and upwards

Yes I've nearly had a heart attack at some of the prices €5 per cover in some places  She's having a big wedding so need to keep costs down where we can. Will try and duck into Reeds this week and see what they have.

I know we bought covers with our invites but that was 6 years ago and I have no idea how much they were. She's made her own invites so am thinking plain and simple mass booklets.

Any Art & Craft shops might be worth a look. I got everything I wanted for our invitations in Inspiring Ideas in Blanchardstown. Worked out pretty reasonable but we're not inviting that many so not sure how it would work out for 150.

I would've gone with the long-arm stapler idea, have used it making up hundreds of brochures, a bit tedious but holds together well, just make sure the smooth side of the staple is on the outside (probably sounds obvious but just thought I'd mention it).

Have you tried www.diywedding.ie they sell all the materials for making wedding invitations and mass booklets, thats where I got mine, you can get covers for 80 cent each, and they also see elasticated silver or gold bands which are used to keep the mass booklet together very handy. I found it very helpful, good website with templates as well. Good luck with the booklets :)

    Hi

I just did mine today, I got 100 sheets of I think 120gm paper in Daintree for about 35 euro, and I got Reads to photocopy the insides on 100g paper (2 pages double sided) and it was about 22 euro.
I bought a long arm stapler (14 euro in reads) and I've stapled the booklets together. I'm still debating whether to add some ribbon as per the orginal plan as I think the paper is decorative enough and it might not need it. I also think that with using 120gm paper on the outside that ribbon only to bind them might be too flimsy so thats why I decided to staple them - something I noticed from a friends wedding. If you were using heavier card (like 200gm) it mightn't be as flimsy.

    Hope this helps
