Bank of Ireland cards free to use at UK Post Office ATMs

Just thought this might be useful for some people. BOI run the ATM machines at most of the UK Post Offices and if you are a BOI customer you can withdraw money from them without having to pay any charges - could save you quite a bit! Had heard it from someone else, but tried it in London last week and it works!

Would you mind to tell us what your credit card statement tells you ?

I seriously doubt that BOI is giving anything free at this time.

I rather suspect something like this ..

All I know from my BOI manager for BOI credit cards is, what ever credit (positive balance) you have on your card you will be able to withdraw free of commission charge at any ATM world wide.

Eh Madhatter, what made you think he was talking about credit cards?

I wasn't talking about credit cards. I was talking about BOI customers who have accounts in the Republic and use their Laser/ATM cards at these machines.

Do you have a receipt with the comm free notice?

Will try to find one tomorrow in London. But I even more doubt a Laser Card getting commission free money.

At the Dublin Airport when dispensing with a BOI Lasercard from a BOI ATM Pounds they charge me massive commission with the LaserCard in Ireland, why should they give the money for free in the UK?

Check your online lasercard statement if it looks like this.
    60.00@.870423 68.93
    CIR UKRG GBP 60 3.17

Which is 72,10 EUR for 60 GBP then you payed Commission and its not free.

@sitstill: This is not an accuse to you, but we should not waste more money to BOI due to false informations, as they are already ripping us off where they can.

Ok if you don't want to believe me you don't have to (Jesus, last time I try to give people a heads-up here).

This is what my statement says:

    22 APR 2010 ATM2204STG 400@1.1856 474.24

Whats a bank charge? Haven't paid them in years and if they tried it on now they'd know where they'd be told where to shove them.

In Edinburgh there a couple of weeks ago I went to take money out of an ATM in the airport and the ATM asked if they wanted them to handle the exchange rate, offering me £250 for €300 , I left it up to BOI and it ended up costing me <€280

I'd assume that that's because they charge commission on currency exchange. If you get Pounds in the UK it's not a currency exchange.

Anyway, last year in Belfast I was charged no commission for taking out Pounds at ATMs.

What shall I say ... I really feel like an idiot ..

I cant believe I really spend in London 45 minutes to find such a postoffice with an ATM and 3.17€ to proof I was right.

LaserCards withdrawing £ in the UK postoffice with a BOI ATM are normally charged as an abroad cirrus transaction.

However I cannot judge BOI ATM cards in the UK on BOI ATMs cause I dont have one.

Later I was told that some new generation ATM's in London ask while the transaction if you would like to get debited in £ or €. (mine didn't do so, and I wasn't able to find out what company of ATM's it is, but I know this behavior from Switzerland where almost all ATMs ask you for your currency to be debited).

However a € debit will be free of charge on BOI Lasercard.

I rate that bargain as F- but do now understand how BOI want to get its billions together ;-)
