Hi, just wondering has anyone gone to the greek islands before to work for the summer? I'm thinking about going this summer but I'll be going alone so kinda anxious about it. Would I make friends easily or is it a bad idea to go alone? Thanks in advance! :)

Went on a holiday over there last year and seriously regretted not staying the whole summer and working. If I got the opportunity again I'd absolutely jump at it, alone or not!

How you'd get on though I think it all depends on which island you'd be going to as each one has a very different scene. Islands like Syros and Naxos would be more family orientated, San Torini would mainly attract couples and honeymooners and there's not really a lot to do there besides admire the scenery, Ios and Zkynthos (sp?) would be big student spots and party islands (particularly Ios) and Mikonos is meant to attract a more gay scene and be more expensive then the others.

If you're working a job like promotions or tourism you're obviously more likely to make friends, or if you're working anywhere with other young people. Also accommodation wise many of the islands don't have hostels or the like but are all about room sharing and renting, so going to one with a hostel would obviously be a better idea from a making friends point of view unless your job organises accomodation etc.

Hope that helps! I'd still do it though either way, even if you start to hate it you'll come back with a lovely tan and some amazing photos.
