we're putting our wedding menu together and are logger heads over which meat to have as our main course. The 2 options were have are Roast Sirloin of beef, calconnon mash, horseradish yorkshire pudding and jus roti or stuffed leg of lamb(stuffed with apricot, pinenut and sage stuffing, red wine jus)

    Which would you prefer?

I'd go for the beef - fruit and nuts in a stuffing is just wrong! :p

    I voted for the Beef.

I love Roast Lamb (it's one of my dinners!) but I don't think I'd like it stuffed with anything.:o

Yeh, I'd go for the beef for the same reasons. If there's anything a bit strange on the menu you'll have the few fussy people acting up. I don't wanna give them any excuse :D

    Although lamb is yummy :o

    lamb is much nicer.

you should not care if fussy people act up, lamb would be much nicer and more unusual.
fussy people will always find something to complain about:mad:

Beef definately: thats what we are having! I'm kind of a fan of beef/salmon for weddings: some people are just odd when it comes to food  and most will eat beef!!

Actually... we're having chicken :p cos it's cheapest. I'm not paying another 500 so people can have lamb :D . If they want a free meal, they're having chicken... if they want lamb they can go elsewhere.

Although the op asked which to go for and I think more people eat beef than eat lamb. I did say lamb is yummy but personally I actually prefer beef anyway and usually choose it when we eat out.

Defo beef, not sure but i reckon in general, beef would be more popular than lamb?

best way to decide is which would you rather have personally? i dont eat lamb so couldnt ppossibly have a wedding personally with somethin i wouldnt eat myself on the menu!

I'd prefer the lamb but I think a lot of people would be put off by the apricots. You might be safer with beef.

I personally prefer lamb myself but I think when you're shelling out all that money you want to make sure that as many people as possible like the meal and that there is as little waste as possible so on the basis of which meat has the broadest popular appeal, I'd say beef.

Beef. I would absolutely hate the stuffing in the lamb.... and I'm not a fussy eater.

I reluctantly say beef simply because some people don't like lamb but most people will eat beef. Personally I love lamb and would choose it everytime over beef. We had the same dilemma at our wedding but the beef was gorgeous.

A huge amount of people don't eat beef due to health scares. The same goes for salmon. I've been at a few weddings/dinners with beef/salmon options and the discussion at the table has been which is the lesser of two evils. I eat both but if I was hosting a formal dinner I'd be loath to offer either for this reason. No matter how nice it is, people won't enjoy a meal if they are worried about the health implications of the food.

Beef every time. Beef is hard to mess up, lamb is hard to get right. The worst wedding meal I ever had was lamb, would never ever consider it.

Thanks again for the replies! Beef is my choice also but I know a few people attending, including the bride, really don't like beef and that is our issue. Its interesting that a number of people have picked beef because they feel its a safer option. I have no worries about our hotel getting the food right as I've attended a number of functions there and their reputation is good especially for food. The pole doesn't lie tho. A tasting is the only way to see if the lamb will work out!

    THANKS ALL

That's not reliable either. The lamb a kitchen has from day to day varies hugely. I know the lamb we were served was fatty and gristle-y and not something I would have served to anyone. Bride said the day they did the tasting the lamb was amazing but even she was disgusted with what we got.

I was at a wedding where I didn't notice the menu and mint sauce on the table (:o) and hadn't a clue what meat I was eating, was just thin slices of brown. Would avoid lamb for that reason :D

I've been meaning to thank everybody for replying to this thread and for giving your input. We decided to go with the beef in the end. Both were very good at the tasting but lamb is always a worry especially when its starting to go out of season.
