old Ranger or new Ranger

I'm looking at buying a ford Ranger the old model, Love that classic truck shape remiinds me of my Bronco when I lived in California. But I've been warned to stay away from the old model. That it was crap and that the new model is far superior.

Any one have any first hand expierence with these trucks?
Is the new model really better- fuel economy, power, handling, torque?

Have 1st hand experience.


Pros
They're old-tech indirect injection, simple tough interior, no fancy electrics, basic for servicing. parts surprisingly cheap (probably Ford's involvement, tail light lens only 17 euro for example)

Cons
they're not particularly nippy, interior is like something from the 80s. you need side steps and slightly bigger and wider alloys for it to look any way decent.

Can't think of any area that a Hilux is better, and you can't get higher praise than that for a pickup.

New model a whole other ballgame. don't know enough about them to comment.

06. apperently it has more power and is far more efficient on desiel but with it being a newer car it will cost more so I'd like to be sure that there is a big enough difference and I'm not wasting my money.

there's a fair difference in them, decades in terms of comfort etc. if you're using it for hard work then the old model should be considered, if you're using it as a car, then the new model is the one to go for.

How does it do for mpg? how much is a service? how large is the fuel tank (ltr's). how much to tax? how much to put tyres on it>

30 odd combined, 200 euro or so for a full service, 80 litres afaik, 288 euro inc vat, roughly 100-160 a corner depending on tyres

One of our vans died on its 4rse today, blew a ring.Having looked at the Ranger on carsurvey, I think Im gonna buy one to replace it. Much overlooked I reckon, I had never even considered one before this thread. Hope I'm alone, so they stay cheap.

Yeah I know the mazda is the same as the Ford. Im just looking for a solid comparison between the two Ranger models.

Ford ranger o5 2.5td doing 18mpg 22 max normal driving around otherwise great reliable pick up good power and comfort .Have not been able to get it to run with better mpg .I drive carefully yet average 18mpg anyone do anything to improve on this .
