Hi I was wondering if I could order an iPhone 3Gs from an Apple store in America and get it delivered to Dublin and then get it sim freed to use my own sim card in it...would it work?? and around how much will it cost?

Not possible afaik, buying from apple direct in the USA means you have to take out a 2 year contract with ATT.

The mechanics of the Apple store won't let you either. If that was the case, we could be ordering TV shows/films that are only allowed in the US.

Apple would never allow that. :)

I'd wait if I were you. Until roughly july.

Also, head up north, get it in a uk o2 shop, £15 and they'll legitimately unlock it for you. Down here they want you to spend €120 credit before they unlock it.

thinking about this at the moment, any more details on how you go about this/
can i just pop up to Newry, buy the iPhone on PAYG, buy a 15e top up there and then and get it unlocked there and then?

or is there some process you have to go through?

    thanks.

seems like you can, click on the link below, as long as you have £15 credited to your pay and go a/c, just fill up the form and you get a confirmation within w week or 2, at this point just put a non o2 sim in it, hook up to itunes and sync...

I haven't done it myself but there's no reason it shouldn't work..

However, when the 4g is released , they may have a different rule for this..and they will probably not sell you a pay and go if they suspect you are from the republic..(I don't know if that's legal but they have been known to do it..)
