    Hi,
I have to do some surveys in the next week outside a shop and I am just wondering does anyone have any experience regarding how many respondents you can get in an hour?

My survey takes about 2 minutes to complete and the shop is average where it is not very busy or quiet!

well it is quite simply 60 minutes divide by the time it takes to do the survey, file it and get another one out.

so say its 2 mins to do it, then another two to chat to the person, file it and get ready. that would be

60/4= 15 per hour maximum, this is assuming you don't hit a quite spot.

I take it is your first time surveying in public so a few bits of advise, dont take rejection personally, stay smiling and tell the person what the survey is for and the amount of time it will take eg, I am doing a college survey, would really appreciate your help and it will only take 2/5/10 minutes

Hada do this in college before.. the main thing is to keep yourself motivated to keep asking people to actually do it..

MUST it be done outside a shop? Plenty of places online that will get you a survey done!

If you want to increase your response rate and decrease your 'look at you like you are the scum of the earth for interrupting their very important day' rate, then you should offer them something for filling out the form, such as a 1 euro voucher for the shop or a free mars bar or something.
Otherwise most people are just gonna walk on by since its of absolutely no benefit to them to fill it in.
Cynical I know, but thats the way people are unfortunately.

If you do something like that, you damage the validity, reliability and generalisability of your results, as a bias is likely to be created in the research. The method you speak of is generally used in cases were a long period of time is needed with the respondent.
