hi experts,

i failed my NCT because of worn wiper linkage for my hyundai accent, can someone throw some advice on ho/w much will it cost to fix or if i can do my self (how mych would be the parts),

If you are handy mechanically and have a set of spanners you could get parts from ascrap yard and try yourself. They can be a bit awkward sometimes.

If its where the linkage fits onto the spindle (Kinda looks like a ball and socket joint) theres a really simple fix that will cost you nothing.The problem with these is that the "socket" part is plastic and the "ball" part is metal and they wear against each other.

Heres how you fix it.

Get a thick plastic bag--the thicker the better--heavy duty black sacks are ok but if you can get the thicker stuff its better.

Anyway what you do is cut a piece of the plastic bag about 1-2 inchs bigger than the socket part--you might have to try it a couple of times to get the size right.You put this over the ball part and then pop the 2 back together--you may need a pliers to get them back together since its going to be tighter than before and thats it--problem fixed--the plastic bag piece that you cut makes up the worn space in the linkage and the wipers will be fine.

Ive done this on loads of accents(and other makes) and theyre still going strong--but it only works if its where the ball and socket meet--if the actual spindle is worn out then you`ll need a new linkage--I think theyre around the 100 euro mark+ labour.
The good thing about the fix above is that you can do it in place by taking off the grill under the windscreen.
