i'd imagine the full tank would do the job. My petrol alfa goes up and back easily on a full tank. your looking at a round trip of about 500 to 550km approx back to Cork City

Totally depends on your MPG. Cork City to Ikea and back is 520KM/300M, I'd say a hi-ace might just about make it. How far does 60eur usually get you?

I just see below your username you're in Cobh, that's 540 KM approx so. Before you head, check the availability of everything you want online and ring up if you have to, would be a terrible waste of a journey to find out some essential parts of the main bits you're buying are out of stock.

60 would usually last for a good bit.Keep on meaning to reset clock after a fill but always forget:rolleyes:Reasons i'm asking is last week went fronmCobh to Kanturk with a very full van and it used up well over a quater tank by the time i got to Mallow. The van was packed with timber, stones etc doubt i'll be carring that weight back from Dublin.I think its 20 chairs and 5 tables outside one's.Thanks lads for the replie's
@Cornie My daughter has appointment up Dublin same day and a friend asked us to collect stuff for her while we are up there. She tried to buy the stuff online and she can't for some reason?

The online store is only available to UK residents. Be sure you're checking stock availability at ikea.ie, the Dublin store by the way :)

You say 60 euro, but what's more important is how much per litre you paid.
you know the distance that you need to travel, you can find out the volume of your tank, and you can find out average mpg for your van, you now will have all the information to calculate how far a full tank will get you.

But don't worry if you get it wrong, cause all you have to do is pull into a filling station and buy more diesel, I'd image there's quite a few between Cork and Dublin.:D

Between cork and Dublin about 3 pumps and i say theres a distance of nearly 120 kms from the last pump in Abbeyleix and cork.
Reason i was asking was if i took all them factors volume price mpg etc. There will be extra weight on the return journey

I went from whitegate to ikea and back last week in a diesel passat for 40 yoyo. Car was pretty heavy all the way home.

You could chance pulling off of the motorway to get diesel??? Urlingford, Cashel, Cahir, Mitchelstown, etc. They all have a filling station within a mile or 2 of the motorway exit

Steady 55 all the way to Belfast ftw. Might as well like. Still make it back on a tank at that speed, plus save on the nordy prices.

    *40 mpg being reasonable for a 00 hiace @ 55mph w/ 60 litre tank.

A 00 Hiace is pre D4D and will guzzle juice.

    Dave

Do an internet search and get prices for delivery it would probarly work out cheaper. There are several collect and deliver services in Cork who would probarly deliver cheaper then you going yourself

Sorry if this is a stupid question but why don't you stick some fuel in it if it needs it ?? Surely there'd be some filling stations along the way ???

They have diesel in Dublin too!

There's a filling station very close to the turn off for IKEA on the Ballymun Road.

please tell us all where you are getting a full tank for a van for 60€

Last time I filled up my car it cost me 80€ and I guess your van would have a bigger tank??

What he refers to as a fill may be 75% of the tank as many people fill up when the needle enters the red even though there is quite a bit left. I think the capacity in a Hiace is 70 litres. My own car is taking €85 diesel at the moment.

I am one of these people you see at the pumps with a little note pad writing away while there is a Que building up behind. (and you'd be saying to yourself, what the f**k is he doing)

I did an mpg test on my non D4D 00 Hiace over 3000miles  (not in one go "like") it returned 29.90 mpg

I would be light a the gas pedal and v rarely carry any weight with no more than 20% of it at cruising speed ie. motorway, mainly country driving.

So to answer the original question "if it is 300 miles to ikea and back"

the 300 miles would take 10 gallons of diesel and at today's (07.06.2012) price @ 1.569 Per Litre it would cost €71.23 to do the journey so no €60 won't get you up and down.

But dave1982 asked the question back in April 2010, if he could have got the fuel back then for €1.32 per litre then yes he would have made it on the €60:)

    To summarize :

I should not have access to the internet, a Hiace van or a note book for that matter. Goodnight !
