How do you interact with the Gentlemen's Club forum?

    Hi all,

If you have the time, or the inclination, there is a link to a short questionnaire in this thread. It is a part of a small audience research project we are conducting for our MA out in DCU.

We are hoping to research how you interact with this forum, your motivations for using it and what you take from it - be it seeking advice, giving advice, or using it as a social platform. We are also interested to find out if you apply the advice given on this forum to your day-to-day lives. In other words, how seriously do you take the forum, and what does it mean to you?

We researched several forums on boards.ie and decided that it would be more interesting to focus on a certain demographic and little has been done on male users and their interaction with forums such as tGC. We also noticed that it is not just males seeking advice, but you regularly have females seeking the advice of a male audience, which we found interesting. The general preconception out there is that it is harder for males to ask for advice or help, be it health related or a romantic dilemma, but now with online environments can certain inhibitions be overcome or can people be more true to themselves as the usual social constraints or expectations don’t apply as rigidly?

We don’t plan to get into the nitty gritty of topics or content; we are only looking at the use and interaction you have with this kind of forum.

If you could take 5-10 min to fill out the questionnaire it will be greatly appreciated and of much help to our research project. The questions are all multiple choice but there is room to elaborate if you care to. All questionnaires completed will be entirely confidential and no details or information gathered will be published.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions,
    Many thanks,
    Caroline

    Done dusted.... interesting questions...

I just waned to say that for some people in regards to advice inhibitions are allways more open when you don't have to look at people in the eye and behinde a computer screen is a safe place for being out of the comfort zone. So I think forums like this can be of huge use to people in many ways...

    Completed!

Interesting survey, I suppose it highlights the difference between offline relationships with people and online relationships.

Done. How do you plan to use the data apart from the research project?

Done, and good luck with the MA.

I've filled it in too ... I'd quite like to see the output / trends, or whatever can be shared.

It would be interesting to see how people respond, in an anonymous fashion, to the questions.

Unfortunately for the reasons you mentioned above it can attract trolls, keyboard warriors etc. Like everything I suppose it has positive and negative points.

Thanks for the feedback and to anyone who has completed the questionnaire! I can definitely post my quantitative findings when I get the project finished up for anyone that's interested.

Any data gathered via the questionnaire will only be used for the purpose of a college project. After the research is completed any data gathered will be disposed of (safely) (not sure if that answers your question MrMoe?).

There has been loads of research done on the pros and cons of an online environment and I guess its a irony of sorts, that in one instance it does empower people, allowing them freedom and anonymity, while on the other hand due to these enablers people can take advantage and act with less than favourable intentions.

Finally, thanks to Daftendirekt, I’ll need all the luck I can get, has been no easy task! But I can see the end in sight…and a long well deserved holiday as well :)

    Cheers,
    Caroline

    Hi,

A big thank you to everyone who has taken the questionnaire! I have a decent sized sample to work with, but I will leave the link open for another week if anyone else feels the urge...

I should be able to post some stats in about a months time,

    Until then,
